As the late Senator Everett Dirksen quoted, “pretty soon you’re talking real money”. More than 336 million painkiller prescriptions were written in 2011, according to IMS Health, Inc. as reported in a recent Wall Street Journal article by Misters T. W. Martin, Devlin Barrett and Jon Kamp. This article highlights the prosecution, targeting and investigation of several large drug wholesalers/distributors.

The business model for these drug distributors/wholesalers involves them buying huge quantities of prescription drugs/painkillers/narcotics direct from the manufacturer then repackaging and re-pricing the inventory for delivery to hospitals/doctors/pharmacies. If you don’t think this is big business with high profits then read this:

Only, “Three distributors have more than 95% of industry market share”. But don’t worry, the distributors/wholesalers under target/investigation have promised to be more vigilant and to conduct their own internal investigation when it comes to suspicious transactions.

If you are paying the bill then you have the right and duty to maintain your own vigilance and to conduct your own inquiry when it comes to suspicious pharmaceuticals.
