Even the recently deceased Merle Haggard probably knew there was marijuana use in small town Oklahoma.

I’m linking to an article in Louisville Business First by Terri Dougherty concerning marijuana in the workplace. Maybe you haven’t had to address this issue yet, but trust me, you will eventually. Ms. Dougherty stresses how fluid and ever-changing the state and federal regulations are, and how important it is to obtain legal and professional advice before taking marijuana-related adverse employment actions.

Most industry stakeholders agree that working when impaired certainly can affect the frequency and severity of on-the-job injuries. There is a developing debate on the usage of medical marijuana to treat work-related conditions. Once you get past the legality issues, the thought process should be like any other alternative medical treatment option. These decisions include applying the medical science and must consider:

  • Safety;
  • Efficacy;
  • Cost;
  • Side effects;
  • Other options;
  • Expected outcome.

Don’t get left HIGH and dry when it comes to workplace cannabis.
