As Usual…Follow the Money

roadSome of our newsletters focus on the dangers of hospital admissions and the “Super Bug” infections that plague many patients across all economic strata. If you follow pro sports, you will also be familiar with the MRSA infections that seem to spread like wildfire in otherwise healthy young athletes.

A PBS documentary on Frontlinehas an interesting piece on this complex problem entitled “Hunting the Nightmare Bacteria.” Dr. Arjun Srinivasan, Associate Director of the CDC, claims we are now in the post-antibiotic era. Due to over-medication, there are just no easy treatment plans for drug resistant bacteria.

Dr. Srinivasan also takes a shot across the bow of Big Pharma and blames them for neglecting the development of new and more sophisticated antibiotics because “there’s not much money to be made in this field.”

Stronger, higher-priced addictive pain meds…Yes!

Boring, low margin antibiotics…No!
At OMCA, our clients are well-aware of these problems as we aggressively monitor and limit inpatient admission requests to only those medically necessary. Stay out of the hospital and don’t wait for Big Pharma to bail you out.

Call us. We can do better.
