Back to the Future: Chronic Pain Relief

Well, as they always say, “Everything old is new again”!

Acupuncture methodology dates back to ancient China.  Now, the Associated Press reports that this treatment can help relieve chronic pain.

Researchers from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center along with several universities conducted 29 studies on 18,000 adults. The results have recently been published  in the Archives of Internal Medicine.  The conclusion is that the needle remedy worked better than normal pain treatments and better that a placebo. Apparently, the military is a believer because they are now using it to treat pain from certain war wounds.

Is alternative medicine the answer?  I’m not sure.  However, I am sure that long term ever- increasing doses of oxycodone, methadone and morphine is not the answer.

At OMCA we follow the science…

Call us.  We can do better.
