The April 9, 2012 issue of Business Insurance published an article by Sheena Harrison entitled, “Communicate During Recovery To Make Workers Feel Valued”. Ms. Harrison quotes experts who discuss the importance of reaching out to injured workers and showing an interest in their well-being.

Although this message seems obvious, sometimes work comp carriers, adjusters and HR departments get lost in the complexities of prescription formularies, AMA guidelines and urine drug screens.  At OMCA, our Nurse Case Managers know that job one is constant and ongoing communication with the injured worker.  An engaged Nurse Case Manager will make sure the injured worker hears this message, early and often:

  1. Your recovery is important;
  2. I will hold you accountable to comply with physician instructions;
  3. You will return to work.

This communication is the “blocking and tackling” fundamentals that must be performed every day and on every claim.  Don’t just throw a Hail Mary and hope for a miracle.
