A huge managed care organization on the West Coast just now implemented a change in the delivery of medical services.  After a decade of study, they have implemented a “proactive office encounter” checklist to improve a patient’s experience and outcome. Welcome to the party…but you’re late!

 

At OMCA we didn’t need a study to address this.  Since 1994 we have understood that aggressive nurse case management is the key to patient involvement and teamwork coordination.

 

I guess I should have applied for a trademark, as we have been using “encounter” forms for over 20 years.  It’s one of our key vehicles to document understanding, communication and compliance among doctors and patients.
