David vs. Goliath – KY Style

Conway’s latest victory is a $5.5 million settlement from Astra Zeneca relating to illegal marketing and off label use of an antipsychotic drug.  The state claims that this global pharmaceutical manufacturer “put profits ahead of patient care” when they induced physicians to switch to this medicine without disclosing negative side effects, lack of proof of effectiveness, and the absence of FDA approval.

We battle off label usage and ineffective prescriptions on a daily basis.  Although we don’t have Conway’s slingshot, our peer to peer physician intervention can also slay the giant of inappropriate utilization.

The Attorney General is doing better.
