Don’t Be That Guy

Recently I was reading some workers’ comp literature about the root causes of the increase in catastrophic claims. One of our industry’s dilemmas is the difficulty in setting sufficient medical reserves for these long-term complex cases. Historically, adjusters have been confident in their ability to accurately estimate multi-year payouts. Now there is waning confidence that those reserves will be adequate.

Several factors impact this dilemma:

Injured workers tend to live longer due to better medical care;

Better medical care is expensive and ever rising;

Long-term cases are more likely to involve opioids and related complications;

Long-term cases frequently experience polypharmacy and comorbidity issues;

Long-term cases often become horrible files that no one wants to handle, hence they get pushed to less experienced adjusters.

Medical gets complicated. Whoever knows less loses. Don’t be the guy who knows less. Our nurses and physician advisors excel at helping you work through the medical maze.

Call us. We can do better.
