Everybody Works on Monday

Have you ever see the movie “Dave”? Kevin Kline plays a big hearted owner of an employment agency with the slogan, “Everybody Works on Monday”. He speaks about what happens when he finds someone a job.

“They look like they could fly. And it’s not about the paycheck, it’s about respect, it’s about looking in the mirror and knowing that you’ve done something valuable with your day.”

We recently and successfully resolved a workers’ comp lost time claim. It involved a machinist with a debilitating injury to his dominant hand.

Fortunately, we were able to use the best hand surgeons in the world along with intensive (and expensive) rehabilitation. Unfortunately, after 8 months of rehabilitation, the employee’s progress plateaued.

I’m pleased to report that our nurse case manager finally got all of the stakeholders on the same page and came up with an innovative and unheard of solution to this employee’s seemingly permanent disability. We sent him Back to Work.

Seems simple, doesn’t it? Evidently, there was greater functional improvement from returning to work for 2 weeks than was ever realized from 8 months of comprehensive rehabilitation.

Surgeons repair and rehab improves, but aggressive nurse case management will convince

a) physicians to focus on abilities,
b) employers to take a chance, and
c) employees to never give up.

If your case management is just going through the motions and your files never seem to close, you should be with an organization that practices Dave’s slogan — ”Everybody Works on Monday”.

Call Us. We can do better.
