For Whom The Bells Toll

Please no more disorders! Some of the disorders we run into are very common and very serious – COPD, PTSD, CRPS(RSD) just to name a few. After working in the work comp and group medical arenas for 30 years, I thought I’d seen and heard it all.

Now there’s a new disorder to worry about, as reported by Lindsey Tanner in Healthy Living, called hospital “Noise Fatigue.” Hospital workers are becoming desensitized to the constant alarm beeps from hi-tech equipment monitoring vital signs and dispensing medicine. Noise Fatigue can lead to alarm misinterpretation and outright neglect which can lead to delays in treating patients. The Joint Commission believes there is a huge underreporting of this problem, and the FDA has identified at least 100 deaths per year that are linked to “noise fatigue disorder.”

There are two simple rules to minimize this risk:

  1. Stay out of the hospital if you can.

  2. If you can’t, you need an advocate and navigator at every step of the inpatient experience.

We advocate and we navigate. We are not fatigued.

Call Us. We can do better.
