Opioid addicted? Try these opioids!

Buprenorphine — you might know it as Suboxone, Subutex or Zubsolv. These are medications to treat opioid addictions. They are, in fact, opioid-based.

Addiction is a chronic disease of the brain, and the cravings and withdrawal pains from opioid addictions can be debilitating. When correctly used, these medications can temporarily suppress the symptoms of addiction and assist in recovery, along with therapy, counseling and other rehabilitation.

There is a new Buprenorphine-based pharmaceutical just approved by the Food and Drug Administration. It goes by the name “Bunavail.” This product has an “inside the cheek” delivery system, and the manufacturer is touting its effectiveness and low dose absorption.

Although these medications can be a valuable tool to address opioid addiction, they are not a panacea. Here’s what else you need to know–they are:

  • Expensive;

  • Subject to diversion;

  • Many times misused;

  • Dangerous;

  • Not an end-all treatment.

Bunavail will be coming soon to a pharmacy/PBM near you. We can help you manage the risk/reward curve of these expensive, effective but dangerous drugs.

Call us. We can do better.
