“(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”

Because when I visit the ER seeking narcotics, it’s important to be satisfied.

Writing in The Washington Examiner, Robert King reports on a new hospital push to increase patient happiness scores. Under ObamaCare, and under the auspices of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, customer surveys impact a five-star hospital rating system. The survey has questions concerning how well the ER doctor treated pain symptoms.

And guess what? The better the pain relief surveys, the better the reimbursement. It didn’t take long for one hospital with low scores to develop a Vicodin “goody bag” in hopes of improving their ratings.

A recent survey revealed that 17% of ER patients are discharged with opioids. Short-term satisfaction, but long-term pitfalls.

Call us. We can do better.
