It Really Is Free

There is a whole section of the World Wide Web (as we Baby Boomers used to call it) that’s devoted to free stuff. Some of it’s legit, and some of it can be shady. Fortunately for those of us in the workers’ comp sector, there continues to be access to free reports from the Workers’ Compensation Research Institute (WCRI).

The WCRI recently published their 12th Edition of Medical Price Index for Workers’ Compensation, and it’s easily available for free. This study focuses on benchmarking and comparing the actual prices paid for medical professional services delivered to injured workers across 36 states (including Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee and Illinois), spanning the decade ending 2019.

The four major lessons from the interstate index and growth rate comparisons are as follows:

Prices vary widely from state to state for a similar set of professional services;

States with no fee schedules have higher costs;

Growth in prices ranged from a negative 12% in Illinois to a positive 48% in Wisconsin;

States with no fee schedules experienced faster growth in prices paid for professional services.

Doing better requires constant study and analysis of the latest trends. Fortunately, some of these reports are free.

Call us. We can do better.
