I’m linking to a clinical journal published by RxInformer (a Healthesystems publication) titled “Opioid Exit Plan B.” While this white paper doesn’t purport to be a scientific research study, I think you will find it to be an easy and provocative read.

The main takeaways of interest to workers’ comp stakeholders concern opioid misuse and abuse, including the following:

  • A claim is 30% less likely to close within 90 days if an opioid is prescribed in the first 4 weeks;
  • National Safety Council surveys conclude 80% of employers report some type of opioid related issue in the workplace;
  • 9 of 10 patients who experience nonfatal overdoses continue to receive opioids.

At OMCA, we apply the IONs to this crisis:

  • Education;
  • Prevention;
  • Intervention;
  • Remediation;
  • Addiction (treatment).

Like most solutions, IONs involve the fundamentals of blocking and tackling, and hard work day in and day out.

Call us. We can do better.
