More Pills? Or More Pharmacists?

More Pills? Or More Pharmacists?
…It’s kind of like the proverbial chicken or egg question. Although I’m unsure of the answer, writing in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Bill Toland provides some interesting facts about trends in the pharmaceutical industry:

  • 75% increase in accredited pharmacy schools over the last 25 years (from 72 to 128).

  • Double the number of annual pharmacy grads from 2002 (from 6,000 to 13,000).

  • 100,000 pharmacy school entrance applications last year.

So where are you in this? No where. PBMs and the pharmaceutical industry pay lip service to Utilization Review. It takes a special effort to address the extent, duration and magnitude of today’s pharmacy cocktails. It takes a creative, discreet network to control access to responsible pharmacies only.

Call us. We can do better.
