More Pills? Or More Pharmacists?

…It’s kind of like the proverbial chicken or egg question. Although I’m unsure of the answer, writing in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Bill Toland provides some interesting facts about trends in the pharmaceutical industry:
-
75% increase in accredited pharmacy schools over the last 25 years (from 72 to 128).
-
Double the number of annual pharmacy grads from 2002 (from 6,000 to 13,000).
-
100,000 pharmacy school entrance applications last year.
So where are you in this? No where. PBMs and the pharmaceutical industry pay lip service to Utilization Review. It takes a special effort to address the extent, duration and magnitude of today’s pharmacy cocktails. It takes a creative, discreet network to control access to responsible pharmacies only.
Call us. We can do better.
