“Never, never, never give up.” ~Winston Churchill

Regular readers of this newsletter know we have been sounding the opioid alarm for years and years.

OMCA advances and implements solutions to this crisis for many of our workers’ comp clients and claimants across the nation. But do you ever wonder how your state stacks up to other jurisdictions in battling this epidemic?

The National Safety Council recently published a report grading states on six key indicators/action plans that, if implemented, could help. These are:

  • Mandatory Prescriber Education;
  • Opioid Prescribing Guidelines;
  • Pill Mill Elimination;
  • Drug Monitoring Programs;
  • Naloxone Access;
  • Treatment Availability.

Although no state has met all six indicators and 28 states are failing, Kentucky is one of only four jurisdictions that are graded as “making progress” while meeting five of the six indicators.

There is much work to be done, but we should acknowledge and thank the regulators, clinical professionals and workers’ comp stakeholders who have participated in this effort.

Call us. We can do better.
