Nightmares, Flashbacks and Fright

Those of you who attended the KWCEA Conference this past December had the opportunity to hear from Alex Payne, Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training, about workplace violence and claims/legal ramifications.

Angela Childers, writing in Business Insurance, echoes Commissioner Payne’s message in an article headlined “Assaults Complicate Comp Claims.” She presents troubling statistics including the National Safety Council reporting an increase of over 60% in nonfatal workplace assaults in the five year period ending in 2018.

Unfortunately for the workers’ comp stakeholder, when compared to the routine case, these claims generally:

Cost more;

Are more complex;

Often involve psychological trauma.

One key to doing better is early intervention with case managers who are trained to identify and address the unique factors that can cause these claims to spiral out of control.

Another way to do better is by attending the annual KWCEA Conference to hear from regulators, physicians and legal practitioners on the newest laws, the latest science, and the best practices for adjusters and risk managers. So save the date for the 2020 KWCEA Conference on December 10-11, at the Louisville Marriott East.

Call us. We can do better.
