Obamacare has awakened the sleeping giant of Self Insurance
I’m motivated to write this article as I’m reading in Newsmax Health Thompson/Reuters, a journal on colonoscopies. Yes my life is exciting and yes there is a tie in.
The article’s headline is “Colonoscopy found to cut advanced cancer risk by 70%”. But no one wants to spend the $1000 even though 1 in 20 people will be diagnosed with colon or rectal cancer.
For years now cookie cutter/one size fits all insurance coverage has paid lip service to wellness features and placed more and more burdens on employees through higher co-pays and deductibles.
Fortunately, the onset of Obamacare is providing numerous opportunities to work with sophisticated agents and employers to design self funded plans unique to workplace demographics and biometrics. It is very gratifying to be able to make deductibles and copays vanish through employee education/participation, aggressive plan design and utilizing the Medical Home model.
