Oh, What a Relief It Is!

Remember “Speedy” and “plop, plop, fizz, fizz” touting Alka-Seltzer as an over-the-counter relief medication for minor aches, pains, fever, headaches, etc.?

 

There is a “new” over-the-counter miracle option, and it goes by the names of Tylenol and Advil.

The National Safety Council just published a white paper, “Evidence for the Efficacy of Pain Medications,” which makes the case for an Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen combination as more effective at treating acute pain than opioid painkillers.

 

This white paper release is especially relevant as the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration reclassifies hydrocodone combination products from Schedule III to Schedule II, making them more difficult to prescribe and refill.

 

Here is the conclusion from the study: “There are alternatives to highly addictive opioids,” and your case manager and pharmacy review professionals should help you identify these options. Relief is just a phone call away.
