Pay Me Now or Pay Me Later?

Sometimes it’s not Big Pharma; sometimes it’s not poor medical care; sometimes it’s not even addictive narcotics. Sometimes it’s genetics and lifestyle.

A new study published by the American Diabetes Association puts our annual cost from diabetes at $245 billion, up from $147 billion just five years ago. Interestingly, the per patient diabetes cost has remained flat. The number of diagnoses has skyrocketed from 17.5 million to 22.3 million people.

Smoking, hypertension, obesity and diabetes — it’s the co-morbidities that complicate and drive up the cost of delivering healthcare. If you are not addressing your workforce’s wellness, demographics and unique risk factors then you are missing out on a big part of the healthcare solution.
