The mission of the National Safety Council (NSC) is to advocate for safety by eliminating the leading causes of injuries and death. I’m linking to one of their recent white papers titled: State of the Response: State Actions to Address the Pandemic.

Even though COVID-19 has claimed more lives than falls, accidental drug overdoses and car crashes combined, the NSC concludes that state safety approaches have been inconsistent.

Workplaces can be very susceptible to COVID-19 transmission. Early on, long-term care facilities and food processing operations experienced some of the worst outbreaks. Using resources from the Center for Disease Control and OSHA, the NSC has also published SAFER: Safe Actions for Employee Returns. SAFER focuses on the following mitigation efforts as the keys to workplace safety:

Distancing;

Testing;

Contact tracing;

Cleaning;

Face covering.

Kentucky and Ohio were two of just nine states doing better by providing comprehensive guidance to employers to minimize the risks of COVID-19 at work. In Kentucky, our Governor urges us to do better with his periodic briefings and safety reminders.

Call us. We can all do better.
