The Long, Hot Summer

Looks like we’re in for a busy summer!

I’m linking to a couple of short articles from Business Insurance regarding COVID-19.

The first one from Louise Esola provides April statistics on California COVID-19 related claims filings as follows:

35% were denied;

70% of denials included negative tests;

30% of denials involved lack of workplace exposure, symptoms or refusal to take a test.

Interestingly, they found instances where groups of workers without symptoms or tests merely filed because a co-worker had symptoms.

In the second article from Angela Childers, a research consulting firm conducted a survey and found that workers are very willing to sue for catching COVID-19 at work if co-workers had a positive diagnosis. This seems to be the case even if the employer had mitigation protocols in place.

Doing better is challenging. 2020 has plenty of challenges for all of us.

Call us. We can do better.
