Seems The Andy Griffith Show taught us valuable life lessons with each episode. Like when Aunt Bee and her Ladies’ Aid Church Committee members over-sampled Colonel Harvey’s elixir, a magic tonic that could cure any ailment, as they were told by the huckster. This prim and proper group of ladies ended up “gassed” (as Barney would say) on 170-proof liquor. Who knew they would rock out “Toot, Toot, Tootsie Goo’bye!” before Andy told them the truth.

I’m linking to an article published by the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud, that warns of another snake oil salesman. This medicine man industry pushes compound creams, and they are preying on the workers’ comp sector to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Here’s what you need to know about many of the compounded pain creams:

  • Limited to non-existent regulation/safety/oversight;
  • Scant scientific evidence as to efficacy;
  • Extraordinarily expensive;
  • Aggressive physician recruitment and compensation for prescribing/dispensing;
  • Inability to stop auto refills.

Andy sent Colonel Harvey down the road away from Mayberry.

Who will send your flim-flam man packing?

Call us. We can do better.
